1.
Sex
In this episode we listen to the stories of teenagers who have
been forced to make difficult decisions regarding the consequences
of sexual activity. They speak honestly and openly about teen
parenthood, abortion, adoption, STD's, infertility and AIDS.
We also share the happiness of a young couple enjoying a loving
and healthy sex life. HOST: Amanda Stepto (Spike).
2. Alcohol
In this episode we meet a girl who began to drink at 10 years
of age and a 16 year old who is a reformed alcoholic. Traveling
across the country we also witness the devastating effects
of drinking and driving from both the victim's and the driver's
point of view. We also hear from other young Canadians who,
with great strength, are dealing with the dramatic changes
made to their lives by alcohol. HOST: Neil Hope (Wheels).
3. Abuse
In this episode we meet young adults who have been victims of
some form of abuse; emotional, physical and sexual. We also
meet a young perpetrator. By talking about their experiences
and seeking help these young people are struggling to lead
'normal' lives. Our interviewees share their stories with candor
and offer hope that there is life after sexual assault and
emotional abuse. HOST: Rebecca Haines (Kathleen).
4. Depression
In this episode we meet teens who feel overwhelmed with feelings
of apathy in a society that is filled with environmental destruction,
peer pressure and alienation. Teens often feel they are alone
and unloved. Why aren't parents listening to their children
or are they listening but not receiving the message? Their
lives may have been damaged by depression but the young people
we meet here have learned to talk, to share and to express
their feelings. HOST: Pat Mastroianni (Joey).
5. Drugs
In Degrassi Talks on Drugs, we meet teens that have been hit
the hardest by drug use and see how their abuse has lead to
the destruction of the family unit and, in one case, to jail.
We meet a reformed solvent abuser who talks about the drug
problem in native communities. We also hear the good news that
illegal drug use is actually on the decline with Canadian teens.
More and more young people are choosing healthy methods to
get high. HOST: Siluck Saysanasy (Yick).
6. Sexuality
Increasingly perplexing for some teens is when feelings of attraction
are for members of the same sex. We meet a young gay man and
lesbian woman who talk about the difficulties of 'coming out'
in high school. With the confusion of sexual awakening for
both gay and straight teens come first loves, first sexual
experiences, and the experiences, and the excitement of becoming
an adult. Canadian teens talk about the joys and struggles
of puberty. HOST: Stacie Mistysyn (Caitlin). |
